Foundation stone of Bangabandhu Railway Bridge to be laid Sunday

The construction work of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Railway Bridge on Jamuna River in Sirajganj is going to start on Sunday (November 29).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the construction work, laying foundation stone of the railway bridge through video conference from her official residence ‘Gonobhabon’.

The construction cost of the bridge has been estimated at Tk 16,780 crore with the financial assistance of Japan. This railway bridge will be constructed next to Bangabandhu Bridge. There will be a revolution in the railway communication of the country, when the construction of the bridge will be completed in August 2024. The Ministry of Railways believes that this bridge is a blessing for people of the country.

The bridge will link Sadar upazila of Sirajganj and Bhuapur upazila of Tangail. Apart from the railway bridge project, another project of a double line railway from Dhaka-Joydevpur to Ishwardi in Pabna would be constructed. As a result, a train will go to Dhaka on a track while and another train will run on the opposite track.

According to schedule of the inauguration programme, Secretary of the Ministry of Railways Selim Reza will give a welcome speech in a video conference at 10:31 am. A video footage will then be displayed. At 10:38 am, the Japanese Ambassador to Dhaka Ito Naoki will deliver a speech. Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan will address as president at 10:42 am at the western end of Bangabandhu Bridge. Later, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lay the foundation stone of the bridge at 10:46 am via video conference.
