Official fired over Kushtia train derailment

Inspector Saiful Islam has been suspended temporarily in connection with the derailment of five wagons of a cargo train after a collision with a rail trolley at Milpara area near Kushtia Railway Station.

No casualties were reported but railway services on Kushtia-Rajbari route remained suspended since the accident that took place at 1:45pm on Friday (March 5).

Pakshi Divisional Railway Manager Shahidul Islam confirmed the news on Saturday (March 6).

The cargo train having a total of 22 wagons derailed when it was going to Faridpur from Chapainawabganj carrying wheat. A five-member probe committee has been formed over the derailment, he said.

Of the five derailed wagons, three were rescued and two others are being rescued. Railway services will resume once the rescue work concludes, he added.
