Two arrested over sexually assaulting woman, filming

Police have arrested two persons for assaulting a woman sexually, filming it and spreading the video on internet in Kanaighat upazila in Sylhet, after being failed to collect extortion from her two expatriate sons.

The arrestees were known as Abdullah, son of Barkatullah of Agtaluk village of Kanaighat, and Sayed Ullah, son of Rafiq Ahmed of the same village.

They were arrested from Haripur village of neighbouring Jaintapur upazila around 10:30am on Wednesday (September 15).

Tajul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kanaighat Police Station, confirmed the matter.

It was learned that the woman was sexually assaulted at her own home of Agtaluk village on the mid-night of August 23. The miscreants demanded Tk 5 lakh from her two expatriate sons after sending the videos of the sexual assault. Later, they were paid Tk 1 lakh advance after through a village arbitration. The rest of money was supposed to be paid on Saturday (September 11). As they did not the money on the day, they spread the video on social media.

As police came to know the video on social media, they took the woman to police station and filed a case against four accused. Two of them were arrested while two others on the run.
