Sundarbans fire under control; observation to continue for 3 days

The fire in the Sundarbans has been brought under control with an effort for three days.

Although the fire has been brought under control, the firefighting efforts will persist for three days to eliminate any potential for fire incident.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO-Sundarban East) Mohammad Nurul Karim Kazi said, “The blaze has been brought under control. However, it is too early to say that the flames have been completely extinguished. We will continue our vigilance, observation and efforts for three days to make sure no traces of smoke or sparks linger in the area”.

The flames broke out in the area near the Amurbunia patrol post of Jeudhara station within the Chandpai range of Sundarbans East Forest Division on Saturday afternoon.

A specialized three-member committee has been initiated by the Forest Department to probe the origins and scope of the blaze.
