Meeting with Edu Minister: No solution comes out, hunger strike to go on

Education Minister Dipu Moni held a virtual meeting with agitating students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) who are demanding the resignation of vice-chancellor of the university Farid Uddin Ahmed.

The virtual meeting began at 1:00 am on Sunday (January 23), which lasted for over an hour. It was held at the room no. 129 of Dr. M.A. Wazed Miah IICT Building of the university. However, they came up with no solution to the current crisis at the end.

Awami League’s Organizing Secretary Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel confirmed the information after the meeting.

“The education minister is worried about the students’ hunger strike. Therefore, she requested the students to withdraw their hunger strike. Side by side, we will make sure that no student falls prey to any kind of academic or legal harassment,” said the organizing secretary.

He added, “The minister has directed the hospital authorities to ensure proper treatment of the students undergoing treatment at the hospital.”

However, the minister did not comment about the resignation of the vice-chancellor during the conversation, Shafiul Alam further said.

On the other hand, the agitating students said that the hunger strike will continue and the next course of action regarding this matter will be taken this morning after discussing it with everyone.
