Wall collapse in Rajshahi kills two workers

Two workers have been killed as a wall collapsed on them while pilling at Barorastar Mor in Rajshahi city. Some workers also sustained injuries while several went missing in the incident. Two units of Fire Service have been working to rescue the missing people.

The incident took place on Saturday (March 12) noon. The injured were taken to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH).

Deceased were known as Riazul Islam, resident of Boliadanga village under Godagari upazila, while other was not identified immediately. However, both of them are from ethnic groups. He is believed to be resident of the same area.

Witnesses and locals said the piling work is undergoing on about 5 kathas of land. The wall collapsed suddenly around 2:30 pm, leaving two dead on the spot and three injured. The injured were sent to hospital immediately.

An injured worker Razib Islam hailed from Rajabari of Godagari said a total of 17 workers were working there. He jumped as soon as he noticed the wall was collapsing. Three were sent to hospital.

Didarul Alam, assistant director of Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Defence, said the rescue operation has been going on. The exact figure of how many went missing could not been known immediately. However, two bodies were recovered from the spot and some were sent to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH).
