SI killed, 8 others injured in Moulvibazar road crash

A sub-inspector (SI) was killed and eight others– including five police officials and three suspects – were injured in a road accident that took place near Moynar Dokan area in Rajnagar upazila of Moulvibazar early Saturday (May 21).
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rajnagar police station Nazrul Islam said, a police pickup van carrying SI Sameeran Chandra Das, other police officials and three wanted suspects were returning from Uttarbagh Tea Garden in Rajnagar around 5:00 am after arresting the three suspects. On the way back from Uttarbagh Tea Garden in Rajnagar, one of the wheels of the police pickup exploded and hit a tree nearby, leaving four sub-inspectors of police, two constables and three wanted suspects critically injured.
On information, a team of police rushed to the spot and recovered them. Later, the critically injured were taken to Moulvibazar general hospital where duty doctor declared SI Sameeran Chandra Das dead.
Critically injured three other sub-inspectors of police, one constable and one suspect were shifted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital (SOMCH) for better treatment, he said.
Besides, another constable and two suspects are undergoing treatment at Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital, Nazrul said.
