Fire at Ctg container depot under control

A devastating fire that broke out following an explosion at a private container depot in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram on Saturday late night has been brought under control.

The death toll in the fire rose to 18.

24 firefighting units brought the blaze under control around 7:30 am on Sunday (June 5), confirmed Shahjahan Sikder, deputy assistant director of the fire service headquarters.

So far, 18 people have died in the deadly fire. Of the deceased, two were identified as fire service workers, said Alauddin, sub-inspector (SI) of district police.

According to fire service sources, a devastating fire broke out at container reportedly containing chemical at BM Container Depot in Bhatiari area under Sitakunda upazila in the district around 10:30pm on Saturday (June 4).

The fire spread fast engulfing the adjoining containers following the explosion during the fire incident.

The incident left many people including workers, on-duty cops and firemen burnt.
