Additional police on highways to reduce sufferings during Eid

Traffic movement has increased on highways across the country ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha, the second biggest religious festival of Muslims set to be celebrated on July 10. So, additional 200 members of police are being deployed at Chandra intersection of Gazipur to make the Eid journey free from hassle and sufferings for homebound people.

Alongside, police members in plain clothes will be deployed so that transport cannot charge extra fair from passengers.

It was learned that people of 26 districts of northern parts of the counry use Chandra intersection, which is called as entrance of the northern region. The place witnessed a huge traffic congestion every Eid, creating a lot suffering to homebound people. Besides, Dhaka-bound cattle-laden trucks also cause the traffic congestion at the intersection. To avoid the chaos, various initiatives have been taken this year.

Meanwhile, like the previous Eids, under constructed flyovers at Safipur, Gorai and Naojor on Dhaka-Tangail and Gazipur-Tangail highways have already been opened for traffic movement. So, homebound people have sigh of reliefs as the move will help reducing the sufferings during the Eid journey.

Firoz Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Salna Highway Police Station, confirmed the matter of additional cops deployment.

He said, “Along with Salna highway police, additional 200 members of highway police will be on duty at Chandra intersection to keep the road traffic jam free. Besides, cops in plain clothes will perform duties to check whethers transport are charging extra fair from the passengers. Some places have been fixed for getting passengers on and down at the intersection.”
