One held over bomb blast in Gangni

Police have recovered three bomb-like substances from the spot following the explosion of a bomb at government fisheries hatchery in Gangni upazila of Meherpur.

One person has been detained in this connection.

The incident took place around 8:30 am on Monday (November 28).

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangni police station said president of Gangni Municipal Jubo Dal Saidul Islam, 40, also the former councillor of the municipality, has been detained.

Locals said they heard sound of exploding a bomb in the fisheries hatchery area at night and informed police about the incident.

Being informed, a team of police rushed to the spot and recovered three bomb-like substances from there.

It is still unclear who was behind the bomb blast and reason behind it, the OC said.
