Halima Khatun, a resident of Balrampur area of Atwari Upazila in Panchagarh, bought a fridge worth Tk 35,000 from Walton by depositing only Tk 8,000. She paid Tk 4,600 taka in three installments each. But Halima, wife of Abdus Salam of the area, died in a tragic road accident before paying the fourth installment. In this situation, the country'’s leading electronics giant Walton Group stood by Halima Khatun’s family instead of collecting the remaining installments. Cheque of financial benefit was handed over to the family along with waiving off the dues.

Walton’s divisional credit manager Zahidul Islam handed over a cheque of Tk 26,192 to Abdus Salam, husband of the deceased’s buyer, on Monday (December 5) afternoon.

Walton Regional Sales Manager Delwar Hossain, Credit Manager Sirajul Islam, Boda Bazaar Walton Plaza Manager Sumon Ali, Panchagarh Zilla Parishad former member Majedur Rahman Bakul, local UP member Aminul Islam and others were present at the moment.

On May 5 this year, Halima Khatun purchased a fridge from Walton Plaza of Boda Upazila market of Panchagarh on installment facility. At that time, she paid Tk 8,000 in cash and Tk 21,800 in total with the next three installments. But before paying the next installment, she was killed in a road accident.

Halima Khatun’s husband Abdus Salam said, “My wife skidded off my motorcycle on the road while we were returning home from Thakurgaon on August 27 this year. I did not have to pay the remaining amount of the installment even though the installment of the refrigerator was running at that time. Instead of collecting the installments, Walton stood by my family. After all, today I got financial benefits from the company.”

He thanked and paid gratitude to Walton for the kind assistance.

Walton’s divisional credit manager Zahidul Islam said, under the ‘Walton Installment Buyer Protection Policy’, a financial benefit cheque has been handed over to the family of the deceased buyer. This is not an aid or grant. Walton believes that the company has become so big today by selling products to the people of the country. So they have a responsibility towards the people. From that sense of responsibility this ‘installment buyer protection policy’ was launched.

He said, Walton is providing financial benefits from Tk 50,000 to Tk 3,00,000 based on the price of the product if the buyer or any member of his family dies while the installment is in progress.
