Shafi Mondol to join ‘Tribeni’ show on Pahela Baishakh

Baul Shafi Mondol learned singing from his cousin Sabdar Hossain when he was a child. He has got support from his family although there was no environment to learn music. In his journey, he came across his mentor Shadhon Mukherjee of India in 1979 and learned singing from him. At the advice of his Guru, he chose to sing Sufi songs. Baul songs are at the top of his choice.
This talented and veteran Baul artiste will join the 47th episode of a live show programme titled ‘Tribeni’ at 10.00 pm today (April 14).
Hailing from Philipnagar village in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia district, Shafi Mondol concentrated on Baul songs in full swing sinces 1983. He taught the interested people Baul songs through an organization called ‘Bhabnagar’. His first music album was released in 1995.
Shafi Mondol felt very pleased after being able to sing for Tribeni and appreciated the activities of Tribeni. “It is really unimaginable that Tribeni can be a name of a programme. Baul artistes are very interested to attend such an open programme. Tribeni is a platform where singers can sing according to the choice of their minds,” he said. He also expressed his gratitude on being invited to Tribeni.
