89% salary, 92% bonus have been paid: BGMEA

At least 89 per cent of salary and 92 per cent of bonus have been paid to the garment workers by Monday (May 10), the time fixed the government.
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Shahidullah Azim told this to risingbd.
He said, “BGMEA has issued instructions to pay the salary-bonus on time. However, all the factory owners could not pay the dues due to short working days as there were Friday, Saturday and Shab-e-Qadr holidays. Hopefully it will be resolved in a short time.”
Regarding the workers’ leave, he said, “The workers’leave is 3 days as per the instructions of the government. Apart from this, the concerned ministry has said that dues of the workers can be adjusted with the leave. However, workers will not be able to leave their workstations even if the holidays increase.”
He further said, “Everyone needs to be aware to stop the second wave of coronavirus. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of the workers. We hope that the workers will celebrate Eid at their workplaces for their own interest and for the interest of their livelihood.”
