Why hiking fuel price shouldn’t be declared illegal: HC

The High Court has questioned the legality of the government decision to increase the prices of different fuel oils.

The court issued a rule asking the authorities to explain why the notification issued by the ministry of energy and minerals increasing the fuel products should not be declared illegal.

The HC bench of Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo on Tuesday (August 16) issued the rule following a writ petition filed challenging the legality of the government decision.

The ministry of energy and minerals on August 5 raised the price of diesel and kerosene by 42.5 percent while petrol and octane by 51.1 percent and 51.7 percent respectively.

On August 8, Supreme Court lawyer Md Eunus Ali Akond filed the writ petition as a public interest litigation with the HC.
