Shakib set to come back as cricket returns Nov 15

A five-team T20 tournament is set to launch on November 15. The domestic cricket is returning with this competition a long suspension due to coronavirus pandemic.

The domestic cricket was suspended indefinitely on March 17 due to the outbreak.

After that, the country’s cricket governing body Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) gradually has returned the cricketers to the field. Initially, cricketers were allowed to practice privately.

Tamim, Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah got the opportunity of fitness training, bowling and batting at different times.

The team practice started by keeping the cricketers inside the bio-secure bubble. The coaching staff also joined them back in the country.

After the postponement of Sri Lanka tour, the preparation match went on among themselves. After playing two warm-up matches with the red ball, the BCB organized a three-team match with white ball. The selected cricketers of HP team also joined there. Around 70 people including the coaching staff, support staff, match officials and organizers along with 45 cricketers remained in the bio-secure bubble.

The BCB is confident in holding the five-team competition successfully. After completion of President’s Cup, BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon on Sunday said, “We will start the T20 tournament with five teams on November 15. We will invite sponsors for the teams. If we get sponsors, we will welcome them. Otherwise we will organize it ourselves. Foreign cricketers will not be given a chance here. All local cricketers will play in the competition. Shakib will return to the country before the tournament launches. He will return to cricket with this tournament.”

Shakib’s ban will end on October 29. Only then the left-arm all-rounder will be able to return to cricket. Shakib will return to competitive cricket with the T20 competition of these five teams organized by BCB. He is currently in the United States.
