BCB to get new coach within 18-20 February

At the end of last year, Bangladesh National Cricket team head coach Russell Domingo himself resigned before Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) took any initiative to fire him.

Bangladesh will return to international cricket in March. England national team will come to Bangladesh to play three ODIs and as many T20Is. BCB will appoint a new coach before the series. BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon said Bangladesh will get a new coach between February 18-20.

BCB president said in Sylhet, “You must see (the coach) before the England series. (Coach) will come I will not say who will come now. He will come between 18 and 20.”

It was learned that BCB is bringing Sri Lankan coach Chandika Hathurusingha back again. The contract with him has almost fnalised. Before the coach himself given final nod, the BCB president does not want to reveal anyone’s name.

He said, “I don’t know (whether Hathurusinghe is becoming coach). Neither Hathuru nor any other coach said anything to me or BCB. I did not give the news. However, we will see someone, there is no doubt that the coach will come in between 18-20. There is a short list, there are options. We will get the coach from the list.”

Domingo gave an interview to BCB on August 7, 2019. Being excited by his profile, the BCB appointed him. He was initially contracted for two years. In 2021, his contract was extended until the 2023 World Cup. But the coach broke the relationship before 11 months of expiring the tenure.

The pressure on the BCB has eased as Domingo resigned on his own. Soon after the India series, he was informed that he would not be retained. Domingo sent his resignation letter from South Africa before the BCB started the formal process.
