Garo girl gang-rape: Tushar, Lavlu remanded for 10 days

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court on Thursday placed detained Asraf alias Tushar and Lavlu on a 10-day remand each in connection with the gang-rape of a Garo girl on a moving microbus.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Amit Kumar Dey has passed the order after a hearing in this regard on the day.

Earlier in the morning, Sazzad Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Vatara Police Station, filed the plea before his court seeking 10-day remand for the accused.

Earlier on May 26, night, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Tushar, who is suspected as the mastermind of the gang-rape, and Lavlu, who was driving the vehicle.

They were arrested from Kuakata and capital`s Gulshan-1 respectively and RAB handed over them to the Vatara Police Station on May 27 night.

On May 21, the 21-year-old ethnic minority (Garo) girl was forced into a microbus near Jamuna Future Park area in the city and gang-raped. Later, she was dropped at Uttara`s Jashimuddin road.

Media reports had it that police stations initially dillydallied in taking her complaint. She was reportedly driven out from two police stations and had to wait more than 3 hours at another when went to file case.
