Morsheda among 24 BCL activists expelled

Staff Correspondent: Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on Monday expelled its 24 leaders and activists including Sufia Kamal Hall vice-president Morsheda over the allegation of torturing female students at Dhaka University on April 10.

A statement signed by BCL central president Saifur Rahman Sohag and general secretary SM Zakir Hossain confirmed the matter on Monday night.

Expelled BCL activists are - Khaleda Hossain Mun, Atika Haque Sawrna, Mira, Jannati Aktar Sumi, Sraboni, Sharmin Aktar and Asha.

Others include- Liza, Mithila Israt Choiti, Sudipta Mandal, Anamika Das, Somon Sathi, Priyanka Dey, Prova Shila, Jakia, Monira, Runa, Sharmin Sultana, Mitu, Shanti, Tanzila and Taj.

Following the issue, BCL central president Saifur Rahman Sohag said, the decision was taken according to the probe report over the incident.

There was an allegation that Iffat Jahan Esha, president of Sufia Kamal hall unit of BCL tortured a student for taking part in quota movement on April 10. Later, agitated students rushed in and confined the BCL leader. They handed Esha over to the hall provost after a good beating.

Later, Jahan Isha was reinstated to her post on April 13 three days after she was expelled from the front organisation of the ruling Awami League (AL).
