BCL men beat up IU student

IU Correspondent: Activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of ruling Awami League, of Islamic University unit in Kushtia on Sunday beat up a student in the university faculty building around 12pm over a trivial matter.

The victim was identified as Rashedul Islam, a MA student of the university’s Arabic Language and Literature department, who also a member of Bangladesh National Cadet Core (BNCC) of the university.

Witnesses said a group of activists led by IU BCL unit leaders beat up the student with sticks and bamboos. The struck on Rashedul`s head which led him becoming senseless on the spot.

Later, students of various departments were rescued him from the spot and took him to the university central hospital. After providing primary treatment, duty doctor of the hospital, Parvez Hossen, sent Rashedul to the Jhenidah sadar hospital for better treatment.

Mentioned, Rashedul Islam was on duty as a member of BNCC, to the university main entrance during the intake tests of 2015-16 academic years. To avoid any violence and admission tests corruption, University authority took a decision so that no university student could enter into the campus during the tests. As part of the announcement, Rashedul obstructed some BCL leaders to enter the campus. Following the event, the leaders misbehaved with Rashedul. Later, police settled the matter among them. But the leaders beat up the student centering the incident while he was coming out from the university BNCC office.

President of IU BCL unit, M Saiful Islam said that the miscreants were not involved with BCL. He rather urged the university authorities to take appropriate step.

IU proctor Professor Dr M Mahbubar Rahman said that he was trying to find out the miscreants who had launched attack on the student.
