JMB man Tariqul confesses six murder

Staff Correspondent: Banned Islamist outfit Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) member Tariqul Islam gave confessional statement in connection with the Gopibagh six murders.

 

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubur Rahman recorded the statement on Friday afternoon.


Tariqul said before that JMB members murdered the six people inside the apartment, claimed the case’s investigation officer DB’s inspector Kazi Golam Kabir.


Tariqul was, later, sent to jail, he added.


On 21 December 2013, six people, including pir Lutfar Rahman Faruq, his son and four others were killed by miscreants on RK Mission Road in Gopibagh. The pir were arrested twice several years back for his controversial preaching on religious beliefs.


Tariqul said in his confessional statement that six JMB men, including Tariqul himself, participated the killing with the plan of outfit’s senior leaders.


JMB’s second-in-command Golam Sarwar Rahat Azmir Amit was shown arrested the case, but obtained bail from a court later on.


Tariqul had earlier on 25 October confessed before a court about his direct involvement in killing of former Power Development Board chairman Khizir Khan.

 

Police arrested Tariqul from Tangail on October 14. He was arrested in connection with the bombing attacks simultaneously across the country in 2005. He got bail two years ago in the case.
