Tobacco kills 1 lakh people per year: Nasim

Secretariat Correspondent: Health Minister Mohammad Nasim said that approximately one lakh people die from tobacco use in the country and about 3.82 lakh more suffer from tobacco injuries.

The Minister made the disclosure while addressing a press conference at his secretariat on Thursday noon.

He said that about 2.5 crore people are addicted to tobacco.

Besides, 45 percent adult male and two percent women are addicted to smoking, the minister said.

He also said that the government passed `Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) Bill` in 2013. But, only law cannot control the problem. People`s awareness is must here.
