Unregistered SIMs can be activated anytime: BTRC

Abu Bakar Yeamin: Some three crore active mobile connections may be suspended on June 1 as those are yet to go through the biometric re-registration process.

But the subscribers can re-activate the inactive SIMs at any time through the biometric re-registration.

However, the mobile operators can sell the inactive SIMs if the subscribers cannot be re-registered within 540 days from the date of inactivation.

Though Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) earlier directed all mobile operators to disconnect all unregistered SIMs after May 31, it sent a new direction stating options to re-activate SIMs at any time through the process.

Meanwhile, a petition on Monday was also filed before the court seeking stay on disconnecting unregistered SIMs.
