Case against UNO Tariq Salmon withdrawn

Staff Correspondent: A defamation case filed against former Agailjhara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tariq Salmon has been withdrawn.

Barisal Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Amit Kumar Dey dismissed the case after Obaidullah Sazu appealed before the court seeking withdrawal of the case on Sunday.

Earlier, Barisal Metropolitan Police closed six policemen who were on duty at a court when UNO Tariq Salmon was sent to jail in a defamation case.

On 19 July, a Barisal CMM court sent the UNO to jail after he surrendered before it in compliance with its order and sought bail in a defamation case filed by Obaidullah on charge of publishing a ‘distorted’ photo of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the invitation card on the occasion of the Independence Day. Later, Salmon was granted bail on a bond of Tk 10,000, hours after the order.
