Dhaka to be capital of developed country by 2041

Staff Correspondent: Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain announced to build Dhaka as the capital of a developed country gradually within 2041.

The Minister came up with the announcement while speaking at a programme at a hotel in the capital on Wednesday.

He said Dhaka will be capital of a middle-income country by 2021 and it will be made the capital of a developed country gradually within 2041.

Citing importance of Dhaka, the minister said though the size of Dhaka is only 1 percent than that of Bangladesh, the city provides 36 percent of the country's total gross domestic product (GDP) and creates 44 percent of employment. This statistic obviously proves economic importance of Dhaka.
