Housewife Nodi gets life term for torturing Aduri

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court has sentenced housewife Nowrin Jahan Nodi to life-term imprisonment for torturing her domestic help Aduri.

Alongside, the court also fined her Tk 1 lakh. However, the court acquitted Nodi's mother Israt Jahan as charges brought against her in the case were not proved.

Judge Jayashri Samaddar of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 passed the order on Tuesday.

On July 9, the tribunal fixed July 18 for its judgment after the arguments were completed in the case.

Aduri was present in the court while announcing the judgment.

On September 23, Aduri, 11, was rescued from a dustbin at DOHS Baridhara in Dhaka in a serious condition as the employer Nowrin Jahan Nodi left the girl there, after brutally torturing her.

Later police brought her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and after treatment for one and a half months there, she was handed over to her family and she went her home of Katurataluk village in Joinkathi union under Sadar upazila of Patuakhali on November 7.

Police on September 26 arrested Nourin Jahan Nodi, Aduri’s employer and on October 3, arrested her mother Ishrat Jahan in the capital. Later, Israt got bail.

A case was filed with Pallabi Police Station in connection with the incident on September 26.
