Be alert as if Eid celebration does not cause to spread infection: PM

PM Sheikh Hasina addresses the nation

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged countrymen to be cautious as if the Eid celebration does not become a cause of spreading the coronavirus infection.

She made the urge while addressing the nation on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr on Thursday (May 13) evening.

PM Sheikh Hasina said, “The Eid is a day of joy. The joy of Eid is to remove all the blackness of the mind, forgetting the differences among people and merging with each other. Today, we will take an oath to free ourselves from all evil tendencies such as hatred, greed, egoism, anger, arrogance, etc. and to be bound in the bonds of equality, brotherhood, unity, amity and harmony.”

Mentioning that the world has been going through a deep crisis for more than a year, she said, “A deadly disease called Covid-19 has become an obstacle in normal life of people across the world. This virus, which is capable of spreading rapidly, is taking the lives of countless people and damaging the livelihoods of people. The virus has had a devastating effect on our health system and economy.”

“Late the last year, when global infections began to decline, we were all hopeful that we were going to get rid of this deadly virus. But the second wave from mid-March shattered all our plans and expectations,” she said.

Therefore, it is not possible to control the disease without avoiding public gatherings, the Prime Minister said, adding, “We could not but impose restrictions on the normal movement of people knowing that it will be difficult. Businesses including shops, shopping malls must have to follow the hygiene rules. For the same reason, restrictions have been imposed on the movement of public transport.”

“In such an uncomfortable situation, we have to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr again. We will celebrate Eid, but of course follow the hygiene rules. We have to make sure that the Eid celebration does not become an occasion for the spread of coronavirus infection,” she said.
