4th phase municipal polls: 3290 aspirants submit nomination paper

Some 3,290 aspirants have submitted their nomination papers to participate in the fourth phase of 58 municipality elections to be held on 14 February.

A total of 287 will contest for mayoral posts, 664 for Ward-councilor posts and 2,339 for general councilor posts in 56 municipalities.

SM Asaduzzaman, Joint Secretary, Election Commission Secretariat disclosed the matter on Monday (January 18).

Earlier, EC Senior Secretary Md Alamgir said a total of 56 municipalities will go for voting in this phase. But, two more municipalities were added later.

According to the schedule, the last date for submitting nomination papers was Sunday (January 17). The returning officers will scrutinise nomination papers on January 19, and the last date for withdrawal of candidacy is January 26.
