Lightning strikes kill 4 in Lalmonirhat

Separate lightning strikes occurred in Patgram and Hatibanda upazilas of Lalmonirhat on Thursday (July 2) morning, leaving four fishermen dead and two others injured.

The deceased were identified as Jahedul Islam, 26, son of Khandakar Ali; Rakib Hassan, 24, son of Jahir Uddin, of Islampur village in Dahogram union; Montu Mia, 40, son of Ramjan Ali of Purbobej village in Hatibanda upazila and Ati, 38, son of Abdul Hamid of of Purbobej village in Hatibanda upazila.

In Patgram, Jahedul Islam and Rakib Hassan were killed and two others injured in lightning strike when they were fishing a river, confirmed Sumon Kumar Mohonth, officer-in-charge (OC) of Patgram Police Station.

The injured are identified as Badsha Mia and Shafiqul, both of them hailing from the same area.

Later, they were taken to Rajshahi medical College and Hospital (RMCH).

Montu Mia and Ati were also killed in another lightning strike incident in Hatibanda, confirmed Omar Faruk, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hatibanda Police Station.
