Steamer with dozens gets stuck in Kirtankhola

Staff Correspondent, Barisal: PS Mahsud, a Morelganj-bound steamer, has got stuck in a shoal of Kirtankhola River at Charkauarchar area in Barisal with dozens of passengers.

Sources said the steamer boarding 180 passengers stranded in a shoal at the Charkauarchar around 6:00 am on Sunday due to invisibility of dense fog.

Though the Barisal-bound passengers got down at the scene, the steamer still stranded there with at least 73 people. However, no casualty was reported immediately in the incident.

A K Azad, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC)-Barisal, confirmed the news.
