Islamic University Teachers’ Association on Tuesday (December 22) demonstrated on the campus protesting the vandalism of an under-construction sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kushtia.

Around 50 teachers of different departments formed a human chain in front of the university’s Mrittunjoyee Mural around 10:30am demanding stern actions against the attackers involved in the vandalism.

Presided over by IUTA President Professor Kazi Akhtar Hossain, IU Vice-Chancellor Professor Shaikh Abdus Salam addressed the human chain as the chief guest while pro-vice-chancellor Professor M Shahinoor Rahman, former Pro-VC Professor Kamal Uddin and former treasurer Professor M Selim Toha spoke here.

IUTA executive body member Professor M Saidur Rahman conducted the human chain attended by teachers of different departments including Professor M Mahbubar Rahman, Professor M Maher Ali, Professor M Mahbubur Rahman and Professor M Mahbubul Arfin.

Addressing the human chain, attack on the sculpture of Bangabandhu means an attack on the independence and existence of Bangladesh.

We have to be united to stand against the conspiracy of the anti-liberation forces so that they cannot do such odious act in the future, the speakers added.

On December 5, unidentified miscreants damaged the under-construction sculpture of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Panch Rasta point in the district town.

The police arrested two students and two teachers of Ibne Mas-Ud Qaumi Madrassah in Kushtia on the following day and they later gave confessional statements in the case.
