BCL leader arrested in schoolgirl rape case

Raipura Upazila Chhatra League President Asadul Haque Chowdhury Shakil has been arrested in connection with the rape of a schoolgirl in Narsingdi.
Police arrested him on Friday (November 27) from a restaurant in Brahmanbaria after absconding for two months and five days.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raipura Police Station Mohsinul Qadir confirmed the information.
The OC said police arrested the accused from a restaurant near Bishwa Road at Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria on Friday afternoon on the basis of secret information.
According to sources, Shakil had a love affair with that schoolgirl for six months. Shakil called the girl on the evening of October 22 and took her to the Government Raju Auditorium in Srirampur area of Raipura. But the girl was sent home without marriage.
The next day, the girl was called to the auditorium again from home saying that they will get married at around 10 pm. Later, Shakil raped the girl with the help of Sumon, the caretaker of the auditorium. When the locals came to know about the incident and surrounded the auditorium, Shakil left the girl and fled.
After receiving the news, the police visited the spot at night and rescued the victim.
The victim was sent to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for medical test.
The victim filed a rape case with the Raipura Police Station. Police arrested Sumon, the caretaker of the auditorium, in the incident.
Meanwhile, Asadul Haque Chowdhury Shakil was expelled from BCL for violating party discipline.
