Mim loses all members of her family

Nine-year-old Mim Akter lost all members of her family in the tragic speedboat accident occurred in the Padma River on Monday (May 03) morning.

A five-member family of Mim was going to Khulna to bury her grandmother who died on Sunday (May 02) night. They got on the speedboat from Mawa ghat, but it rammed into a sand-laden vessel near the Kanthalbari Ferry Terminal, leaving her parents and two sisters killed.

They are: father Monir Mia, 38, mother Hena Begum, 36, and two sisters Sumi Akter, 5, and Rumi Akter, 3. Only Mim survived as she fell into the sand on the bank of the river after skidding off the speedboat.

She was rushed to Shibchar Upazila Health Complex. After receiving treatment, she was brought to the ground of Kathalbari Hazi Yeasin Mollakandi Dotar Government Primary School where bodies of the four of her family members were kept. Then, she identified them.

Mim broke into tears when she identified her deceased family members. She said, “We were going to Khulna to see the grandmother for the last time as she died. I lost everyone of my family before burying my grandmother. With whom I will live?”
