Low pressure of passengers in Paturia, 2 ferries ply

Two ferries are seen to ply on the Paturia-Daulatdia route in the Padma river with corpse-carrying vehicles and ambulances under the emergency service as passenger pressure on the route appears very low.

Meanwhile, a number of people making their way to village homes are seen crossing the river with the help of those ferries.

Md Zillur Rahman, deputy general manager (DGM) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Aricha office, confirmed this to risingbd around 10:00am on Tuesday (May 11).

Zillur Rahman said, “There was a pressure of trucks carrying goods on Monday afternoon. Besides, vehicles carrying passengers were also given access to crossing the river all day long under the emergency service. From now, ferries will ply following the prior decision. Trucks carrying goods will be given access to the crossing from 6:00pm to 6:00am. Corpse-carrying vehicles and ambulances under the emergency service will be crossed 24 hours.”

He said, “Two ferries left for Daulatdia ferry terminal from Paturia with corpse-carrying vehicles and ambulances under the emergency service. Few passengers are also seen boarding those ferries. Passenger pressure was low in that ferry terminal area.”
