Two killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’ with RAB

Two suspects were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-15) at East Baraveola union in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar district.

During the shootout, the members of the elite force recovered illegal arms and several rounds of bullets from their possession.

Major Sheikh Yusuf Ahmed, CPC commander of Cox’s Bazar RAB-15, confirmed the matter early Monday (December 6).

The elite force claimed that the deceased might be the members of a dacoit gang.

However, the members of the team could not ascertain the identities of the deceased immediately.

Acting on a tip-off that a group of dacoits was taking a preparation to commit dacoity, a team of RAB members carried out a raid in East Baraveola area early Monday, Major Sheikh Yusuf Ahmed said.

Sensing the presence of RAB members, the dacoits opened fire on the team. Later, RAB fired back in self-defense which left the two suspects lying on the ground, he said.

The duty doctor declared them dead when they were taken to the Chakaria Upazila Health Complex. Later, the bodies were sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for an autopsy, said the CPC commander.

The elite force also recovered three local weapons, six rounds of bullets and four firearms along with other equipment from the scene, he added.
