UP Chairman shot dead in Narsingdi

Miscreants have shot to death, Jafar Iqbal Manik, 50, chairman of Mirzachar Union Parishad under Raipura Upazila in Narisingdi.

The incident took place at Shantipur Bazar of the union on Saturday (December 3) afternoon.

The deceased was known as son of late Motalib Mia of Mirzachar village. 

His brother Barson Mia confirmed about the death.

He told reporters that rival Mirzachar union Awami League general secretary Firoz Mia has been harassing my brother (Manik) in various ways since the last election. People of Firoz Mia shot him to death while he was returning home after a meeting. Manik was president of Mirzachr union Awami League.

According to locals, a meeting was held today (Saturday) to stop the dispute between Firoz Mia and Jafar Iqbal Manik. People of Firoz left the meeting rejecting proposals of understanding. Manik went to Shantipur Bazar at the afternoon. Then, miscreants shot him to death and fled the scene. Later, relatives took Manik to hospital.

Satyajit Ghosh, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Raipura Circle, told reporters that UP Chairman has been shot. We are going to the area. Additional police will be deployed there to control the situation.
