Govt mulls promoting students without exams: PM

The government is mulling promoting students to the next higher classes without exams due to Covid-19 outbreak.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this while inaugurating the 100 per cent electricity coverage in 31 upazilas on Thursday.  The Prime Minister inaugurated it through a virtual conference from Ganobhaban.

“In the wake of the COVID19 pandemic, the educational institutions have remained closed as a result uncertainty has loomed over taking final examinations. The government is now thinking of promoting students to the next higher classes without exams similar to the ones they did in schools”, the Prime Minister said.

At one stage of the programme, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina spoke to a 10 grader student from Noakhali district.

The student said “Though the school has remained closed due to coronavirus, we are enjoying benefits of getting electricity and participating in classes on television and online”.

The student thanked the Prime Minister on behalf of the students for her initiatives.

“Not only Bangladesh, the whole world is suffering from the same problem, everyone is suffering. We are trying to continue study of students”, Sheikh Hasina said.

The Prime Minister said “The final exams are ahead… the exams will not be held in due time. What can be done? With the promotion, we are making an arrangement so that study of students can continue”.
