‘Matarbari deep-sea port to be operational in 2026’

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said Matarbari deep-sea port can be started in 2026.

The minister said this while replying to questions during the question-answer session in the parliament on Sunday (February 5).

He said, the project has been taken at an estimated cost of Tk 17,777 crore BDT to build the country's first and only deep-sea port. The duration of this project is till December 31, 2026.

Khalid Mahmud also said that the task of the project has been completed after making a drawing-design of the current plan. A 14.30 km approach channel with a width of 350 meters and a depth of 16 meters, has been constructed for the construction of a deep-sea port.
