Professor Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari, former vice-chancellor of Islamic University, has expressed profound shock at the death of the university's Bangabandhu Chair Professor and also the president of Bangla Academy Shamsuzzaman Khan.

In a condolence message, Rashid Askari said, ‘Prof Zaman was a scholar of rare erudition, a distinguished folklorist and a specialist in Bangabandhu studies and independence history. He had had the opportunity to work in close proximity with both Bangabandhu and Sheikh Hasina. He was an asset to the nation and a father figure to the contemporary intelligentsia.’

Meanwhile, IU incumbent VC Professor Shaikh Abdus Salam, acting registrar, teachers’ association, and journalists’ association have also expressed deep shock at the death of Shamsuzzaman.
