Askari condoles death of Shamsuzzaman Khan

Professor Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari, former vice-chancellor of Islamic University, has expressed profound shock at the death of the university's Bangabandhu Chair Professor and also the president of Bangla Academy Shamsuzzaman Khan.

Shamsuzzaman breathed his last at a hospital in Dhaka around 4:30pm on Wednesday.

In a condolence message, Rashid Askari said, ‘Prof Zaman was a scholar of rare erudition, a distinguished folklorist and a specialist in Bangabandhu studies and independence history. He had had the opportunity to work in close proximity with both Bangabandhu and Sheikh Hasina. He was an asset to the nation and a father figure to the contemporary intelligentsia.’

He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Meanwhile, IU incumbent VC Professor Shaikh Abdus Salam, acting registrar, teachers’ association, and journalists’ association have also expressed deep shock at the death of Shamsuzzaman.

Ex-IU VC Professor Rashid Askari appointed him to the post of Bangabandhu Chair Professor on October 1, 2018.
