Court to announce verdict today

The much-awaited verdict in the case over the murder of actor Sohel Chowdhury 25 years ago will be delivered today (May 9).

Judge Arunabh Chakraborty of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-2 is scheduled to pronounce the verdict.

The state is expecting that the accused will be awarded the capital punishment. However, the accused are saying that the charges against them is not been proven. So, they will be acquitted.

Earlier on April 29, the court fixed May 9 for delivering judgment after completing the hearing in the case.

Sohel Chowdhury was shot and killed on December 18, 1998, in the capital's Banani area and his brother Touhidul Islam filed the case with Gulshan Police Station on the next day.
