Deaths of 4 girls: Pineshail now a village of mourning

Pineshail village under Gazipur sadar upazila is now a village of mourning following the deaths of four teenage girls.

Three teenage girls died from drowning while another remained missing in a beel of Pineshail area on Monday noon.

The deceased were identified as Richie Akhter, 15, a nine grader and daughter of Solaiman Hossain at Panshail village under Gazipur sadar upazila, Irene Akhter, 14, an eighth grader and daughter of Hyat Ali, and Maya Akhter, 14, an eighth grader and daughter Monjur Hosain.

Missing girl is Riya Akhter, 10, a third grader and daughter of Solaiman Hossain.

According to the locals five teenagers went to the beel for taking a bath at noon, but four of them were swept away due to strong current.

Locals rescued one of them and took her to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital where the duty doctors declared her dead.

Upon receiving the news, the Fire Service members came and recovered two bodies.
